About UsMIX Artists Inc is a membership based association for contemporary artists in the Great Southern region of Western Australia.
Our objectives are
|
|
MIX members work in a wide range of media including sculpture, installation, painting, printmaking, photography, textiles, and digital media. Most of our exhibitions are presented in Albany, the largest town in the Great Southern region, and our members live throughout the region, including in Denmark, Kentdale, Mt Barker, Borden and Lake Grace. Albany is 400 km south of Perth, WA's capital city, and the Great Southern region is home to many creative talents. |
Our History |
MIX Artists began in 1999 as a collective of emerging and established contemporary artists and became an incorporated association in 2005.
From 2004 to 2017 MIX presented a contemporary art exhibition or project in Albany for the Great Southern program of the Perth International Arts Festival. Exhibitions included Welcome (2004), Liminal (2005), Emblems of Belonging (2008), Lighthouse (2012), ten(T) (2013), and Web (2014). Several projects have involved contemporary artists working with the wider community, and have also involved activities in Lake Grace and Katanning. In 2020, MIX contributed to the Albany Entertainment Centre's tenth anniversary with an exhibition titled Navigate. Two exhibitions Hotspot (2006) and HomeFRONT (2015) have toured Western Australia, managed by Art on the Move. MIX has also toured two of its exhibitions to other regional venues: in 2018, Reservoir was presented at the Albany Town Hall and then at ArtGeo in Busselton, and in 2021, The Alternative Archive - MIX which was first shown in Albany in 2019, was presented at The Painted Tree Gallery, Northcliffe, with support from Southern Forest Arts. In 2019 MIX celebrated 20 years of bringing contemporary art to audiences in the Great Southern and beyond. MIX Artists were pleased to be selected to feature in an Artspiration video, created as part of the Creative Grid project, co-ordinated by Southern Forest Arts. Please enjoy the video below. |
