After initial research in areas of hydro acoustics, water quality and human relationships with the ocean, I made the decision to focus on communication as the main concept for my work. This area was identified in the early discussions as the missing link by the scientific community, as it was felt to have failed to explain scientific information in a way that truly engaged. The climate change data is available, why don’t we absorb?

Accessibility in the artform would allow for engagement. I decided on using a graphic novel approach to explain my thoughts after seeing the Cleverman exhibition *, behind the scenes of the sci-fi TV series.

Using previous work Buoyant and a costume I created and Collyn Gawned inhabited for the gARmenT wearable art performance (*photo 1 & 2) I began working on a character. Later named the Marine Observing System or MOS (*photo 3), I sent off to observe what is really happening and represent in powerful imagery.
Using the page of a graphic novel as inspiration, the 5 copic marker illustrations are placed on the wall to be considered as a whole work.

BIO SUMMARY
Nat Rad is a practicing multi-discipline artist in Albany, WA with an Associate Degree, and experience in Arts Administration. Nat grew up in Derby, WA and completed her arts degree regionally as a mature aged student. After practicing in shared workspaces, she has finally obtained her own studio, allowing the translating of ideas across the mediums of painting, sound, and textiles.
