LIZZIE RILEY
FRAGILE CONNECTIONS Resounding birdsong Wind through trees The minutiae of living entities Silent ancient masses Still, Everything connected. Our presence momentary. I have written this poem as an explanation of my abiding attachment to this beautiful part of the country. The complex structure of these fibre pieces a metaphor for our planet as a whole. The interconnection of all, sometimes strong sometimes messy and fragile. The material is agonis flexuosa (peppermint tree), sourced from a tree near our home. A truly resilient tree! The fibre responds to this “lace” like technique. The forms refer to the granite shapes that are part of the structure of our beautiful landscape. I always like to work and think from an antithetical position. |
