The work refers to the environmental effects of salt water in the landscape.
Immersing old film slides in water from the lake they illustrate caused crystallisation and general deterioration, and the images became a metaphor for salt land degradation.
The lightboxes were designed to create a lake-like reservoir for the images. Neil Howitt’s construction and lighting expertise is gratefully acknowledged.
